Have put this in Geeks Chat too, but (with apols to Shaun) also posting here in hope of quick answer

Can anyone tell me, from the code numbers, which of these/if both/if neither of these is an RJ45 cable?
Thanks in advance
1) (yellow cable) TIA/EIA-568-B. 2 CAT.5 Patch Cable UTP

2) (grey cable): UTP CAT 5 PATCH ISO/IEC 11801 & EN 50173 & TIA/EIA 569 B . 2 3P

I started to answer your question then realised I had no idea what I was on about.

Hope this helps

Well given past experience I would say that yes, neither and or either are definitely one or the other. Or not.

Hope this helps.

RJ45 refers to the connector (plug), not the cable. It is the standard connector for ethernet and similar network cables.

I cannot fully decipher your cable codes, but I would guess that both have RJ45 connectors. I would also guess that both would work in identical fashion, unless one is very old and of the "crossed" type.

edit: Looks like they're both cat 5 cables, so yeah, should be identical.

Thank you. I thought the codes might be impt. The connectors are identical, and both seem to work fine. Daughter going off to uni, and needs a cable. The yellow one is longer.

Those are international codes Mate for specifications of the cable and wiring configurations. As the other chaps say, RJ45 is a connector type, and does not deal with the specification of the standard. As for working, 568b is just a pin configuration, I.E. straight through cable if you have 568b both ends. If you look at the pins of each connector, as long as they match, white/blue blue!white etc etc you have a straight cable and good to go
