Doesn't tell me anything I didn't know already. The LTDA are a bit of a weird bunch but fair play to them this time, rather than their usual spouting off from the comfort of their cabs they have actually gone out and done something. Whether or not it's evidence or statistically correct (as discussed in the comments) it does help to show why so many peds and drivers in London have issues with all cyclists and it's down to those who knowingly commit a crime "cos it's victimless innit"

The irony is strong in the LTDA. Beware. Cyclists will, no doubt, film hackney cabs doing what hackney carriage drivers do day after day. I've yet to know of a cyclist putting a motorcyclist into hospital after doing a U turn yet, when I was a patrolling PC in the City of London, I had three on three consecutive days. The problem for cyclists, especially in London, is that the meek only inherit a bit of earth six feet long and three wide. Those who shoot the lights are normally not the ones injured. It is the law abiding who die or are injured by lorries and, let it be said, cabbies. The problem with the law is that it takes little notice of cyclists. In 30 years in the police I did not deal with any incident where a person required hospital treatment after an accident with a cyclist. And that includes a period in my force's process unit. It is a shame that I cannot say the same about cabbies. I got on well with cabbies and found them a source of help and information in my time, but I have to say I would take no advice from them about safe driving. Taxi drivers: the proof that experience alone is insufficient.

Interesting, cabbies attitudes and driving are very poor sometimes.

Not defending RLJ'ers, but...

1 - It looks like a fairly quiet junction,

2 - What proportion of the cyclists are jumping the red just before the lights change (i.e. after the opposing lights have gone red and they can see the opposing traffic has stopped)? You could argue that this is safe while technically still breaking the law.

http://aseasyasridingabike.wordpres...o-ltda-analysis-of-signal-compliance-by-mode/

26% of bicycles, 60% of cars, 75% of vans, 50% of HGVs and 83% of motorbikes who had the opportunity to proceeded past the relevant stop line on red.

And no taxis. Did they know that junction was being filmed?

The article does make a good point, that Cyclists have far more "opportunity" to jump lights than other vehicles, because so many can filter to the front. And when they do jump the lights it is usually in a controlled manner.
Also look at the total number of vehicles, cyclists far out number any others.

Without reading the OP linked story, my first thought is how sad you have to be to sit there for hours doing that. Not excusing things but I bet its been filmed at one notorius junction where signal timings are lengthy and its layout encourages RLJ, not a particularly representative junction.

Not seen the full video (about 45 mins) but the comments on the Evening Standard frm those that have say that there's more motorists going through on amber and red, some pretty dangerous overtaking by busses and HGVs and plent of ASL violations. That edited bit sent to newspaper conveniently misses these out.

How many times have we seen them whizz through the lights when peds are crossing though. Now peds don't expect cyclists to stop.
That just makes it worse to me. I hate the fact that these w*****s have made peds so scared that when I do stop at a ped crossing, the peds look at me as if it's some kind of trap.

I'm kind of with Steve52 apart from there isn't a stick big enough or with enough rusty nails in it
