Looking at buying a new road bike - I've narrowed it down to two bikes so any advice, opinions would be greatly appreciated to help me decide. The bikes are Cannondale Synapse 105 disc or Jamis Xenith Comp - Both 2015 models, I'm new to cycling and will be using the bike for both commuting and for long speed runs at the weekend.

I'm interested in the Cannondale as well. It didn't seem to be massively heavy when I looked at one in Evans. They get good reviews as well.

I have the synapse disc, very nice bike, not too heavy..........BUT

The promax disc calipers are utter shite, so budget for an upgrade to bb7 or spyres and then its a great bike indeed

Also got the 105 Synapse, 2014 version though. I don't have a downer on the brakes like jowwy but I haven't tried other disc brakes, certainly an improvement over the V-brakes on my Sirrus hybrid.

I do want to upgrade the wheels, every time I get close to it a bill for the car or something else has come up though. Very nice bit of kit overall I find, does have room for proper mudguards though fiddly, I enjoy riding it.

I see on Evans there's a comment that the Jamis bike could take slightly wider 25 tyres and clip on mudguards, which I find annoying but you may be happy with. Certainly a consideration if you're commuting.

One is carbon, the other aluminium. One is more relaxed, the other racier. What is it you're looking for?
