Hi there. I am looking to buy a road or hybrid bike that I can use as a form of transport around a city and to cycle out in the Derbyshire countryside for exercise. I am looking for a really good second hand bike that would have been a top bike in its day but can now be picked up relatively cheap. £400 is a guideline but I may stretch to a little more if there is a really good model worth stretching to. I am not too clued up on bikes and I am really looking for advise from you experts on what you see as great bikes. Thank you

Simon

Same question asked here pretty much

If buying used, make sure it's not stolen and has been well looked after

Thanks guys. Do decathlon do used bikes? I thought I would be able to get a better used bike than a new one.

Pretty sure Decathlon only sell new bikes. With a £400 budget, it would definitely be worth looking at secondhand bikes as you will get more bike for your money. That said, you don't have to spend the earth, and your budget will bag you a very good, brand new entry level bike.

Good option if you want to ride some rougher terrain too
Quite a basic spec with Claris group set and an alu fork though

Wheelies had some genesis models at half price the other day. Try there. Last year's models but good value.

no harm in looking for last seasons bikes. some great savings to be made. As i was fairly new to road cycling last year i went for a Mekk bike. Its spot on and was well priced at just £319 from rutland cycles!

I picked it up on cyclescheme too so when it ends in 6 months time I am getting another and increasing the budget to a grand!

Thank you for the advice. I have decided on a cyclocross bike now. That way I will have the option to take it on dirt tracks. The specialised tricross is looking good so far http://www.mcconveycycles.com/store...g-Bike-54cm/?gclid=CLbOjPGq38YCFc7HtAodFaQEMg

I'm not too clued up on specs though so I am open to better suggestions
Is 54cm the right size for you? Make sure to ride beforehand, although that's evidently a clearance model so it might be hard if that isn't a local store (specialized UK usually only permit a 20% discount during specific promotions)

. Ah, it probably isn't actually. I'm 5'10. I'd assumed there would be a frame size to choose in the buying process.

I'd think it's probably a bit small, especially if you are long torso, shorter legs. Can you get to a store and sit on a 5. I'm that height but ride 54s, but being female I have a shorter reach and long legs

You will be able to choose but not that model at that price

See what paulscycles have in the way of a caadx or the giant cx models
