My 10 yr old daughter is interested in a road bike and I would like some CC advice on options please :-)

Ideal budget is up to £400, not really keen on spending too much more. The main options I have seen are:

BTwin 500 (small frame with 650 wheels) £280

Frog 67 £425

Specialized Allez 650 £400

Islabikes Luath £449

She has tried the Frog 67 and seemed to get on ok with it, it has Microshift shifters which I think are shorter reach than Claris/Sora etc. My son who is nearly 6 will then use the bike after my daughter so I want something that will put up with about 4 years of a child using it.

What do you think?

400 quid.....I'd go for the Islabikes jobby as they tend to have the best resale value

How tall is she? The Islabike will hold it's value but I'd suggest the Islabike 26 for that age rather than the 24. Oddly enough we'll have one for sale shortly :okay:

My youngest (age 11) has just moved on from a Felt F95 Jr which has Microshift shifters and 650c wheels. It's been really impressive - far better than similar Allez/Decathlon.

Frog bikes are getting a good reputation.

I will need to measure her but think she is about 135cm. She tried the Frog 69 drop bar but it was clearly too big, I'm very conscious of not 'over biking' her, so want to get something that is the right size now, not something she needs to grow in to.

My 8yr old daughter has a Frog 69 flat bar and that size is perfect for both girls and it's a lovely little bike.

I think I've already mentally ruled out the Decathlon but still interested to hear if anyone has direct experience.

Got the old triban 3 (I think) around a year ago for my 9 year old at the time. She was probably around the same height as your girl is now. Decent enough bike for £250.

Kes Jnr has a Frog 70, which is excellent.
He moved up from an Isla bike which was also excellent.

Main reason for going for the Frog over the equivalent Isla was that the Frog has a double chainring, rather than the single. Not a deal breaker but gives him wider gearing ... however some kids struggle with that and prefer the single ring... you won go wrong with either bike.
