I use my cannonade Caad8 to commute in the summer months but I have recently had a couple of punctures.
I am currently using the schwalbe 700x23s that came with the bike. I am happy with the tyre size but just want a more robust tyre.
I am looking for a good all round tyre that won't slow me down too much but give me a decent level of puncture protection.

Any suggestions????

Spesh Armadillo Elites 23's.
I do many thousands of miles on the mean streets of South East London with very few punctures. 2 or 3 punctures a year at most. They are not the fastest of tyres but they are nice and grippy and good in the wet.
Slime is crap, messy and a waste of money, absolutely no need for it.
Look after your tyres by having a quick check after every ride. Get into the habit, becomes second nature and only takes a few secondS. You soon learn to spot anything that is sticking to the tyre that could work it's way in.

Schwabe Marathon Plus FTW. I've had on my bike for a little over two years, done a couple of thousand miles including 100mi sportives and haven't had a puncture once. Only problem is getting them on the rims!

What exact type of Armadillo Elites do you run,

Specialized Roubaix Armadillo Elite Tyre,

or the

All Condition Armadillo Elite

I use different tyres on different bikes.
  • Marathon Plus - good grip for greasy winter roads, very puncture resistant, but heavy. Weight very noticeable on hills and when accelerating from traffic lights.
  • Bontrager Racelite Hardcase - great balance between speed, puncture resistance and durability. But the harder compound is not very pliable - so a bit skittish in the wet and less comfortable ride.
  • Michelin Krylion Carbon - Very good tyre. Light, durable and good puncture protection. Expensive, hard to find and bit too luxurious for the commute.

These for me - coming up to a year's commuting (1,500+ miles) on a pair and no problems. Came with the bike & barring a super price on GP4000S, will be replaced with the same.

+1 on the above.
I use conti hardshell gator skins and i find they offer a good balance between weight and protection. If i did not have a stock of tyres i would be looking at schwable durano plus as they have a similar design to marathon plus but they come in 23`s so i can get them under the crud mudgaurds i use.
