Road Bike wanted

Hi all, I am looking for a decent road bike. Will spend about £600. Anything out there? Would rather get a used bike with better spec than new bike for same price. I am 5' 11" with inside leg about 31" to 32". Haven't ridden for years but need to improve fitness and reckon cycling is the way forward. I will be joining a club when I get my bike and other necessary bits. Thanks, dave

Or ebay, Gumtree etc are a good source of used bikes, but beware as lots of stolen bikes are hawked this way.

Hmmm, I see you've not made many posts Dave. IIRC you have to reach a certain post count in order to view and/or post in the classifieds.

I don't know if there is a certain number you have to hit, but it's not high so you must be nearly there.

If this thread doesn't get you there you can always post in rolling threads like TEA, THREE WORD GAME, THE CHAIN, or indeed any others that take your fancy to get you count up quickly.

I'd look around the web for deals on 2013 models, or better visit a few local bike shops

If you were only going to spend about £150-200, Dave, then I would agree with you - you could get a decent used bike for that, but you'd be struggling to find a good new one at that price. Not really true at the £600 price point though, where you could choose between some nice bikes. If you get a used bike, then you would probably soon have to spend more buying replacement tyres, brake blocks, chain, cassette etc. I would do what vickster suggests, and buy a new clearance bike. You could probably pick up what was a £900 bike for £600 if a new model has replaced it.

@daveplums go 2nd hand route see how you get on and then a yr down the line treat yourself to a new one and keep 2nd hand one as n +1

Might be a bit small but I've got a 2011 Giant Defy 4 here, with a 19 inch frame.
