I'm told a 50/34 front and 11-32 rear SRAM set up can get you up any hill..I am yet to see this in practice but I am too heavy with a dodgy leg!

The last two bits do not go together well, I hope things improve for you. I used to be the same but now I only have the dodgy leg, which it seems is not as dodgy as it was before.

I know - have had a bad knee for nearly 5 years, getting worse unfortunately, regardless of anything else. And everyone knows about the ongoing shin injury. Losing weight when I can't meaningfully exercise is a disaster for me. But let's not go there, depressed about it all as it

I struggled up hills on my hybrid with a triple and was really concerned when I bought my Defy 2 with a compact double 34/50 and 12/30. But I can now go up hills with relative ease that on the hybrid just were not attainable, the triple may have given lower gears but that just made me run out of lungs before I ran out of legs.
