Having ridden a bike with disc brakes I think it's only a matter of time before they become the normal type on all bikes. UCI have held back development but that can't be the case forever.

No, not all changes are for the good, but better braking has to be a benefit.

One of the interesting developments for hydraulic brakes is the shifters.
While SRAM remains mechanical, the shifters contain no place for the fluid reservoirs as such the only thing they could do was extend the shifter tops.

While Shimano with Di2 Electronic shifting had a shifter that was hollow and contained no mechanicals as the buttons were located on the shifter themselves. This permitted Shimano to create a hydraulic shifter which looks no different to any other.

The components are also not compatible and unfortunately use different fluids, is this going to make the market for hydraulic brakes more complicated than it needs to be.

How much of the market is SRAM going to miss out on due to being ugly as sin.
