Road or MTB pedals and shoes for road bike beginner?

Other way round I assume and do you want to be swapping pedals (or different bikes)

Think you may be confused...

SPD - 2 bolt, recessed cleats
SPD-SL - 3 bolt non recessed, slippy slidy cleats

Otherwise, get better SPD shoes and check cleat set up

Dont think i am confused....

SPD-SL will go on my new bike with better shoes to be used on club rides and w/end when i am out with the O/H

SPD Will be on my winter commute bike which is currently being serviced.

My Knackered bike atm has SPD which i will transfer to the winter bike when i get it back
