There is official displeasure about knife crime, so possession with intent to cause fear of violence - brandishing the knife - will almost always result in immediate prison.
Simple possession - knife found in a suspect's pocket - can also be prison, and there is a 'two strikes' rule, a second offence carries an automatic minimum of six months.
You would be surprised at the amount of young men who have a knife in their pocket on a night out which they 'forgot' was there after helping a mate lay a carpet earlier in the day.
