There was something about the vid that felt odd to me. Perhaps it was the filmers lack of clarity or intention. If it were me, I would have stopped, and told her very clearly why I was filming, what I was going to do, how it was not illegal and that her harrasment and further aggro would only look worse for her. As for her fella having a little poke I would have warned him "VERY CLEARLY" (stopped in my tracks looked him straight in the eye) that if he touched me again not only would that be assault (as stated) but that I WILL take measures to defend myself to the full extent of my abilites. A good cold stare and a slight "motion towards" is often all that is then required to make that sort of trendy looking fella back down.

The filmer seemed to either be a little stunned or evasive and offered no comment at one point he also seems to goad her with mention of youtube.

That said, she seems to be one of those annoying sociopathic types that will go through life seeing other humans as objects that are just there to get in her way.

I hope this incident has provided some reflection for her.

It wasn't as if she had made a great effort to minimise the impact on the traffic, she could have done much much better .... null points IMO.

Yeah, It does seem that the person who filmed this didnt go about it in the best way possible.

But the shop owner and her husband handled it a hell of a lot worse!

I'm sure as Johnny says, we (camera cyclists) would have handled it much better, due to our knowlege of the laws concerning filming people in public.

Just watched this, she parked in a stupid place and can't iuse the excuse she has a business nearby to absolve her of responsibility. That said I can't help thinking that the bloke filming was a bit of a cockwomble, particularly when he tried to compare the situation he was in filming this lady with Syria.

I might look and laugh at people getting irate because they have put themselves into a situation like she has, but in this instance, the roadworks were the cause of her strife before he got involved. She wasn't responsible for them, and the utility co's cause no end of disruption which directly affects more than a couple of drivers waiting behind her.

It's just around the corner from my office, there was notice of the works, she is her own worse enemy

I think the fact that people have been abusively calling her is a 'no, no' as it doesnt really involve them. People can give their opinions on facebook, they shouldnt take things into their own hands.

I'm with Matthew on this

Both parties should re- think how they might have done things better on the day, but character assassinations after the fact are difficult to justify.

There are many causes for congestion, and some of it is manufactured to discourage drivers entering the area, and for no other reason which is great if there is an alternative.

A couple of items,
  • I live in Bath, drive daily into the centre of the City and haven't seen any signs of gridlock in the last three years. Generally I can plan my journey time to the minute, such is the reliability of the network.
  • Simply because the streets are quite narrow, very few of them have bus lanes, certainly much, much fewer than Bristol.
  • The utility company was not involved in the road closure; it was closed because of the planned ceremony for turning on the Xmas lights.

I do however agree with some of the sentiments expressed about the couples behaviour.

Finally, tis a lovely place for cycling too!
