I know this article is really aimed at motorcyclists, but it could also happen to one us on a high speed descent that has gravel on a corner (plus, given the clothing described, which isn't any more protective than lycra)


One of my ex-colleagues who rides a GSXR sent it to me, as far a I know it's not something she's done herself

I suspect that the speed of the motor cycle at the point of her departure from it was far in excess of that of an average cyclist on a fast descent. All falls are painful and there's too many variables in play to make a direct comparison. I suffered more injuries from a 25mph spill from my motor bike than I did when I came off at 70mph. In both instances I was booted and suited. It took six months to fully recover from the slow speed spill and a fortnight from the high speed spill.
