Problem is Cyclesheme charge LBS 10% so they pretty much have to charge RRP.
RRP for the Trek 1.2 2010 model is £675.

Hopefully - It looks like going through cyclescheme will work out £5 more than buying the £260 bike although I may have to wait 6 weeks ish.
Not a problem as September and October see to be more idea for riding than July and August

Well it seems I can get up the hill on the way to work in 3rd (2.3 on the Sheldon brown caluclator).
A Compacts lowest is 2.6, A triples 2.3.
Not sure what the 2.3 and 2.6 means but I'm guessing go for a Triple ??

Those are gain ratios - the concept is beyond me. Change "Gear units" from Gain Ratios to Gear Inches.

I think I will go for the triple as it gives me more options and the rides I want to do involve big hills.

Use the online calculator to get Gear inches. Calculate the lowest gear's "gear inch" it will be somewhere mid to low thirties if a compact double. Now plug in the numbers for a triple chainset and compare. Put the numbers in here...

Lowest front is 26
Rear 26 = 27.2",
Rear 22 = 30.7",
Rear 20 = 35.3"

So I can get up the big hill in the gear in bold - Any higher gears is a struggle. Even the steepest longest hill I tackle can be done currently on the Front and Rear 26 (27.2")

Compact 34
Rear 26= 34.5"
Rear 23 = 39"
Rear 21 = 42.7"
Rear 19 = 47.2"

Triple 30
Rear 26 = 30.4"
Rear 23 = 34.4"

Okay so the Compact has the same lowest gear that I have on my road bike. I'm REALLY fat and can get up most hills on the lowest gear, without stopping to rest (except that b*tch Ditchling Beacon), so unless you live in a very hilly place, I would imagine you would be okay with the 34/26 offered by the CT.

I will try and get up my ride log posted on here - On my commute though I go from 350 feet to 750 feet in the 1st 2 miles - The biggest hill goes from 450 to 750 feet in just under 1 mile.

Leisure rides it's probably 450 to 850 feet on one hill which is 3/4 mile long.

The Road bike is going to be 20lbs compared to 27lbs on my current hybrid (which i guess add another 1lb for various gubbins on it)

Quite a bit of climbing then... even so on a 20 lb bike I would think you could manage it on a compact offering 34/26. Probably be okay after the first couple of weeks

Truth be told, I would have likely opted for a triple of they had been more easily available and cheaper, when I built my bike.
