I think so, and I'm pretty sure it was number one before, until MJ died and people went mad and bought Thriller for whatever reason.

Hence vast sales in that vast part of America where no one has a passport.

I recall one year I think it was Madonna who was the biggest selling pop artist.

The qualification 'pop' being needed because the biggest selling artist was American country star Garth Brooks who had sold goodness knows how many millions of records in a handful of mid-west states.

I think AC/DCs Back in Black is the best selling rock album of all time.

Highway to Hell may not have sold as many units but was in my opinion a better album, in part because of Bon Scott.

I must add, that I canrlt stand the Eagles, and they stole Hotel California from Jethro Tull who they had been supporting on tour immediately beforehand. But the principle stands - no soul, pop or wikki wikki record at number 1.
