No-one particularly 'enjoys' snotting....

The causes are down to the irritation of your sinuses, generally caused by wind in eyes (faster worse), air temperature (colder worse), humidity, and level of exertion (higher worse).

I have wrap round glasses, but find a get a big build up of 'fluid' - it's a bit tricky fiddling round with a hankey in built up traffic at speed.

The only time when this I find this isn't a problem is on the track, but the atmosphere is very dry and the temperature is generally warm.

I don't do it around people (pedestrians/cars/cyclists) and carefully aim for the verge.

Is this a man thing? It's foul. I never ever feel the need to do this, or spit.

If I were that lady, I'd have been bloody mad at you.

Oh I agree wholeheartedly...its a disgusting habit...but it is, by description "Habitual"...once you start, its so efficient it's hard to resist (as Davywalnuts states).

Up untill a few weeks ago I was firmly in your camp...but it just works sooo well.

However, as the last line of my op states...I shall resist forthwith.

And yes, if I were that Lady, I would have been more than furious, I am sure I would have stopped and given it back immediatly.

I find that if I'm not too careful with my aim I end up with 'Sergant Stripes' on my sleeve. Especially if I do a 'double bubble'.

I always have a good look around before I let loose a snot rocket, even if there's a car/ped less than 100 yards away I'll wait for a more appropriate moment. My natural shyness will not let me do one if there is anybody about:blush:
Arch/Debian go on,make it your mission tomorrow to try it out.;)

I'm back! Yippeee
haveing done my first group rides hideing at the back on a cold fast ride( for me anyway 24 mph at the time avg 18) i noticed that when those at the frount cleared there noses, a huge cloud of airboune particals where ejected for the rest of us too ride though, is this some way of spreading cycling dna? to make us at the back stronger? should i suck it up and be at one with all cyclist? or should i hold my breath and attempt to ride to the other side? any thoughts?

Bizarrly - despite the symmetry of human design, I can hit the road / car / bus windscreen no problem one side, but always hit the jacket shoulder the other. Wind direction accounted for.
Funny that!

I had that problem, could never master it down the right hand side and it would just cover my cheek and run into my ear, but I've just recently mastered it, just needed a bigger blast.

My speciality is pedaling standing looking forward, just angle the head slightly downwards and spray it both sides of the front wheel and miss the bars and shoes.

Must just be me then.

If I'm snotty, the back of a glove is a handy wipe. I'm sure if I did try, I'd just end up with a string of something dangling out of my nose.

I use the glove or sleeve too. If I "rocket" I get the yoyo effect. Also riding into work I sneezed whilst letting some builders cross the road and got the yoyo. They found it very funny.

I still think that the absolute winner was Cab's story of not feeling very well, and having a pushy merc driver behind him. He turned round and inadvertently did a little vomit on the Merc's bonnet, LMAO!!!

Don't really see the problem with a bit of rocket action. It's necessary in the cold.

Funny how some people don't like it... but it's not like the road is clean anyway.
