Fast and Furious it is then!

Saw an advert for F8 of the Furious (titled Fast and Furious 8 in the UK though)

Been to see it this afternoon with Little V he's the same age as I was when I saw the original in 1977....

We enjoyed it, to me it was the film that should have been made instead of the pseudo-political-cr*p of Lucas' prequel trilogy..... strangely enough when Disney bought Lucasfilm and announced their plans...... I was 'NNNNNNOOOOOOOO' however they have been careful and treated the original trilogy with respect and created 2 very good (but not excellent) films they are saying this is a Star wars story but I think it should episode 3.5......

and good to hear James Earl Jones as Darth again......

Potential spoilers below.....

I thought there was a third use of CGI (or cutting room floor sweepings) in Mon Martha the female General in the alliance..... however it was an actress who just REALLY looked like the original actress (and the new actress had played her in one of the prequels but cut out)

and yes after recent events I had a tear in my eye at the last scene

i wasn't that impressed with the Fischer appearance at the end. I thought it detracted from the intensity of the final sequence to be honest.

I also felt seeing Darth Vader in the adverts detracted from the offering, I would have preferred he had a big reveal in the movie. (Maybe just the emptying of the tank, and then some bad-assery.

The inclusion of the Cushing character worked well for me. I've always thought he was important in the first SW movie as he is ambitiously vile, exactly what the evil forces are supposed to be.

Incorrect I'm afraid. The 'Part IV' bit was added a more than a year after the original films release, doubtless when George Lucas decided he needed the money for a new beard trimmer or conservatory.

Scroll down to where it says 'title' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_(film) where it is described as a 'retroactive addition'.
e Fossy is correct It was always Episode 4 it was the A New Hope title that was added later

I'm afraid not

When originally released in 1977, the first film was simply titled Star Wars, as Lucas was not certain if he would follow the film with a sequel (and 20th Century Fox felt that alluding to a non-existent 'previous episode' would be too confusing). Following The Empire Strikes Back, the film was re-released in 1981 with the subtitle Episode IV A New Hope. The original version, without the subtitle, was not released on home video until the 2006 limited-edition DVDs.

The scroll didn't have any heading at all, it just launched straight into It is a period of civil war.

furst time a saw her she looked.. off to me, on second viewing it wasn't as bad as I thought. She does look quite different in ANH to the rest.

Tarkin was great, Cushing was great as tarkin but i thought the character was undeveloped in A new hope. This sets him up nicely, he is no longer firing weak shots, he has gone all out planet killer.

For the record, I didn't really mind the episodes 1 - 3 when I saw them, they were of their time. What DOES annoy me though is that it appears to be THE LAW to have a moan about Jar Jar Binks at every available opportunity.

Folks, he was a CGI character, he WASN'T REAL!! If you feel you need to moan about that so much, then you all seriously need to get out more!!

'Nuff said.
The fan theory that JJB is/was a sith lord is quite fun. Certainly makes the character more palatable.

What completely annoyed me about Episode 1 is Anakin building C3-P0... who's bulsh!t idea was that?!

...
They are ok films, but the weird, almost religious sect that has grown up around the films is very odd.
it's no different to the Startrek fandom, or Bond geeks... the almost religious sect that's blown up around Radiohead and Coldplay is far odderer.

Oh, and Rogue One was great fun.

As an aside, my next door neighbour but one is from Columbus, Georgia. He was asked if he would like to be a extra in a film (the extra needed strong US accent). Sounds fun, yes please. Turns out he wasn't needed in the end and expressed disappointment. Then the recruiter said, "Would you like to be in Star Wars Rogue One instead, a fighter pilot?". He said 'oooh yes please!". He's in a scene running across the loading deck with a group of other pilots. He was there all day, early early, til late, and he's visible for only a few seconds, and even then he's not sure that scene made the final cut. £150 and all you can eat.

Final insult, they needed more extras to dress up as stormtroopers, white armour, the lot. Extras all lined up for selection, some fellow walked along them and said, "you, yeah, you too, ok, yeah, etc" until he came to my neighbour and said' "sorry mate, you're too fat." Apparently the costumes are not for the generously proportioned!
