Lately it seems that everyone has you on a rolling contract and unless you cancel the service they say you are tied in for another year .
It seems a sneaky way to catch people out and I wonder if these contracts are actually legally binding ?
Whats your opinion on them / it ?

Well I find that only usually happens if you make a change to the service provided. For instance a BT home phone or broadband contract, if you go out of contract then you make a change to the service they then stick you on a new contract but dont make it very clear.

But I have never for instance taken a 2 year mobile phone contract out then after 2 years had them put me on a new contract without me knowing about it.

The car insurance upped the premium by hundreds of £ and then took the money out of my bank account . The bank got my money back and ive not heard from them since but the website provider are still trying it on telling me I have a legally binding contract with them even though I have not paid them for the year and they are not providing a service .

IT and Web Services companies can be a pain some of them are very unscrupulous. It really really annoys me because I run one myself and I always make a point of giving the customer plenty of warning when things become due, unfortunately not everyone is like that and it give the rest of use a bad name.

I was massively surprised when I got my car insurance renewal letter this year as it had gone down, I just couldn't quite believe what I was reading

Rolling contracts are very common in all sorts of areas - employment, for instance - and I'm perfectly happy with them so long as the cancellation period is reasonable. All my utilities and services are on such contracts. The only one I can think of which has an automatic expiry date is my car insurance

It's not a new thing.
Anyone remember Britannia Music Club? You got 3 free lp's and if you didn't cancel then you got an LP a month and charged for it..... this was about 30 years ago

I too had a decreased premium and one CC regular insisted that it was due to shady behaviour of the company who were trying to rip me off in the first place. I could get my head around his logic.

I remember Brittania Music Club!

You've just accounted for the presence of some vinyl in my possession that I have no recollection of buying......

It's a bit more complicated than that...
