18 during the day (retired, so home more than used to be), 20 first thing and in the evening.
If it gets too nippy, shove another layer on.
Had a new condensing boiler thingy fitted last summer; now we have heating all day, to a higher degree (!), and it costs 2/3 of what it used to cost.
Cool, eh?

why do people put the heat up when it's cold outside?

If an 18 degrees (or whatever) room is comfortable when it's mild outside then surely it is also comfortable when it's cold outside?

and, and, and, (while I am at it)... why are women so nesh? In our office with its fancy Building Management System (where it is 20 degrees constant, 365 days a year) the women (for it is they) sit with coats and scarves on.

The temperature probably dips below that, rather than what the thermostat is programmed to. One end of my kitchen went down to 7C when it was about -10C outside this winter.

In the mid-teens probably - varies from room to room.

My parents always had theirs at 20+. I enjoyed getting my own place so I could wear a jumper!

The thermostat is set at 15 during the evening, with no heating whatsoever before 6pm and none in the bedroom at any time. But for a Sunday afternoon treat I'll crank it up to 17!

Ours is in the hallway together with the uncontrolled radiator, so only determines when it comes on - rad valves deal with the rooms.

Hall temp set to 14 mornings and 16 in the evenings. Target for the living room is 18 and everywhere else is cooler. (If it was up to me it would be cooler still).

No double glazing or central heating Chez Col!

Basement utility room - unheated.

What would be the main living room in most people's houses is a bike shed, gym, store room in mine and though it has a gas fire, I never use it - unheated.

Kitchen - unheated, except by cooking.

Lower stairs, landing, upper stairs - unheated except by heat that escapes from elsewhere.

First floor room which most people would have as a bedroom, but is my living room - unheated unless temperature drops below about 10 degrees C, then it is whatever temperature the little gas wall heater gets it to. It is actually quite efficient so I would prefer not to turn it on above 10 degrees unless visiting softies make me.

My attic bedroom/office has a gas fire which is incapable of going low enough for me so I don't tend to light it until the temperature drops below 10 degrees. I get fuzzy-headed once the temperature gets above 20 degrees so unless it is very cold outside, I'd probably turn the fire off every now and then to let the room cool down a bit.

Bathroom - unheated. Usually only receives heat from elsewhere in house plus heat escaping from the water heater. Unfortunately ... the cold winter completely killed the bugger! It froze up and cracked a pipe and I can't afford to get it fixed. The front of the heater is off to allow the escaping water to drip down into the cistern below. This means that there is effectively a hole in the bathroom wall allowing an icy blast in. So bathroom temperature = close to external ambient at times. Washing in cold water in a room at freezing point is character-forming! I could boil a kettle, but I only bother when I'm washing my hair.

The lack of hot water over the past couple of months has had me doing the washing up in my unheated kitchen with cold water. You get used to it, and the feeling comes back in my fingers after an hour or so ... ;)

dunno not bothered to take home the monitoring kit.

I usually get the heating on and then when it is comfortable with a sweater on i turn the stat to just clicking off/on .

have multiple zones set up ( its great being in ther building services industry) on the heating so can heat individual rooms if required. stops the gas supplier earning lots out of me

My parents home has a few fireplaces that are permanently lit over the winter. So they keep the main rooms very warm, it's a big place and would cost too much to keep the whole house warm.

it's 33.4 deg here in my computer room.. (because of all the computers). the radiator in here has been shut off for 2 years, and the window is open year round, but it still never drops below 30...
yes.. it's hot.. and yes.. I get very sweaty in here.. but. short of air-conning the room.. windows open and heat off is best I can do (
