How many people do not want higher wages?

Depends what comes with the higher wages. I absolutely don't want any more stress or responsibility in my job, so I'm happy to stay where I am. Our team leader was recently promoted due to a shake up, and where we used to all sit and have lunch together, and have a laugh, now there are some days I barely see him, and when I do it's to report something gone wrong.

Now, if I could have higher wages for the same job, that would be fine, but it ain't happening!

I think Mr Summerdays regrets the step up the career ladder, and if he could go back in time might have taken a different route. I know he would like to step back but at the moment isn't too sure about trying to change jobs in the current market. But if things pick up in a while I expect he will take a lower paying job for more job satisfaction.

Due to the unique pay structure at our place people who have been there longer can be on up to £100 a week for doing the same job and those that are tend to be those who know how to work the system doing the minimum required .Some in fact are on more than team leaders .
Those of us who started at a certain point have been basically boned but the union has dragged its heels for years as there is not enough of us to get it noticed .This year they are promising a better pay structure but those on the good money will never be bought in line and will still get further ahead as any pay rises will obviously increase the gap.

Resurrecting a dead thread (zoooooombie threeeaadddd! ) it may or may not interest those who looked at this originally to know that I am currently actively seeking other employment. Whilst I have learned a few lessons whilst working here and will defenitely ask more searching questions when interviewing for any new jobs, I will be willing to accept the same/possibly slightly worse holiday conditions and would be happy to take a lower-paid job to get away from this place. I have made mistakes here but have been made to feel so utterly worthless and demotivated that for my own mental health' sake I have to leave. I am just hoping I can hang on long enough to be able to wait until a new position is found before jacking this in, otherwise I'll be finding a temporary agency job and using some savings to bridge the gap.

I wish you luck, I cannot even imagine how horrible it must feel to go to a workplace/job you do not want to each day.

All that keeps me going is that (a) I could have avoided this situation to an extent, so I have to take it on the chin a little, (b) it's a life lesson and is helping me change my ways a bit, (c) I have a wife and kids to support and I will NOT let them down, (d) I can't wait to see my managers face when I tell him I'm leaving

Hang in there Browser-I've been there too and there've been a few twists and turns for me but I did managed to move on in the end. Went the distance now I'm not gonna stop!
