Roundabouts

Oddly I find it easier to tackle the M11 roundabouts in rush-hour traffic than normal traffic. Still the same things apply, middle of the lane ignore the hoots & gestures to use the cycle suicide path & STARE at the drivers who are approaching the roundabout to let them know you've seen them & you're not going to yield your priority simply because they're present. Try to hold the centre of the lane, which can be hard when there are no lane markings, thus there's a variable number of lanes depending on the drivers actually on the roundabout (the M11/Coton roundabout is good for this, if everyone in a car keeps nice & tight you can actually make 3 lanes but you can also position a car in such a way that there's effectively only enough space for one lane).
There's a certain jam density when people have to think before entering a rbt I too sometimes prefer a rush hour rbt, as far as I recall Ive only had trouble off peak.

I prefer to take roundabouts in primary (centre of the lane), following the road signs or arrows on the road surface, which will hopefully give me a easily predictable route through the roundabout.

So in your case, if the right hand lane was to go straight on, I would take the right hand lane in primary until I had successfully completed the maneuver through the roundabout.

So, for example, this roundabout, I make sure I communicate and give plenty of shoulder checks, and go around like this:

I take the third lane (in primary) ready to join it

Take the lane (in primary) on the roundabout posted A1400 Gants Hill (as that is my destination)

Then I continue in my lane (in primary), which now becomes the centre lane, again for the A1400 Gants Hill (as that is my destination)

I then continue in my lane (in primary) as it then becomes the left hand lane, and signal left where the island is

I then exit here (in primary) and get ready to move to secondary

For me this is a big roundabout, and I like to make sure I make my self visible.
