Route advice

Ladies and gents of the London persuasion, I find myself with the need to travel from Kings Cross Station to the Old Town Hall, Patriot Square, E2 9NF. The Old Town Hall is approx 1/3 mile North of Bethnal Green Tube station and approx 3.3 miles from Kings Cross by road. Using the Google Maps Directions function gives a driving route using the A501 (Pentonville Road/City Road) to Old Street roundabout, then the A5201 Great Eastern Street/Old Street, A1208 Hackney Road then right on A108 Cambridge Heath Road. Would this be a sensible route to cycle, as using the same software produces a rather more labyrinthine cycle route involving what looks like the Regents Park canal towpath for part of it. Bear in mind that I have very limited knowledge of London, so a straightforward route would be good, hence me liking the look of the road route.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
p.s. Cycling in traffic doesn't bother me

it's not far, and I wouldn't have any problems going that route, just assume every cab and lorry will try to kill you and you'll be ok

the canal will be prettier though
