There's a few but BikeHike is one of the better ones. You can plot your route on there and it will give you elevation profiles.

Dont forget that you can take a peek at your proposed route using street view on Google earth

Street view has been invaluable for me in planning our route. It's really useful to assess whether a road is a good one to use and it also gives you useful landmarks to look out for or signposts etc.

Don't check the hills, just hit them when you find them ( its better for the mind set!)
