It's a bit more complicated than that...
At the moment there's no way of doing it, other than uploading a GPX to a different site and putting in a link. There is a useful site called wikiloc which allows effectively for embedding of route maps in webpages in the same way that we can embed vidoes and images - but not on this forum (paging @Shaun - every likely to happen?).

Can you not just rename the file as a .txt file? (or one of the other suffixes that cc supports)
Then add a note telling people to save it as a .gpx or whatever?
Sure I've done that in here in the past.

I've added kml to the allowed file extensions list - so you should be able to upload them as attachments now.

Cheers,
Shaun

couldn't we have GPX given that is the actual GPS eXchange format rather than google's inhouse brand? ;)

There's also this thing called the screendump. You create a map, display it in <whatever_tool>, take the screendump, upload the file to an image-hosting site, then link it on these fora .

You possibly need to use * wildcards as the file selection will default to common use/known file extensions (or just show all file extensions in your Windows Explorer settings!).
when I try to upload an attachment to CC any file with a .kml extension vanishes from what is available to upload from whatever folder I use?
Sounds like it's only showing the common file extensions, as I mentioned above. Click into the file name box and type *.kml and press Enter - it should show them and allow selection for upload.
