Hi..we are staying in Chelleston for a week in March and I am thinking of taking my gravel bike.

Does anyone have any local knowledge on good routes to ride ...likewise places to avoid please?

Many thanks

Chellaston, 🤭. Depending on what your fitness is like and what kind of riding you actually want, you've got markeaton park area and out towards kedleston or the peak district. More local you could head out to Calke Abbey / Ticknall, or Willington, Repton. Local canal leads onto the cloud trail towards Worthington. Hope you've got secure storage for the bike. Personally dont try biking on the city roads. Narrow in places and local drivers don't give a monkeys about cyclists.

If you head south your limited by the crossings over the Trent which get very busy during rush hour ,I prefer the bridge at Repton . The area around Foremark reservoir is quite nice and lumpy if you fancy a challenge search out Greysich hill it's aptly named 🤢. To the East once past Etwell there's nice quiet lanes around Sutton on the hill . I have found Derby has quite a good network of cycle routes to get from one side to the other

If your going off-road, given its a gravel bike the cloud trail gets you over the trent on the old railway, just a short stint along the canal first. This is if heading for Calke, oe Melbourne area. As 13 says above plenty of cycle paths through derby, just be careful. A lot depends on the distance you're wanting to ride. There is Elvaston park area, but im not familiar with the riding there.

Thank you all...I will get the maps out and do some planning. I am building up to a 60 odd miles per day trip in April so around 40 is the plan. Happy with any terrain although prefer traffic free if possible. One of the days I may drive to the Monsal trail and tick that off.

Bike will be either Inside my car or in the house overnight

Thanks again.
