I have just read that the 8 pallbearers at the Queens funeral have been awarded the Royal Victorian Medal.

They did a superb job over the 2 days they were in the spotlight.

@AndyRM indeed, hardly heroic in any way and as a serving soldier I can't imagine much choice came in to it. Just adds to the they are somehow better than us in my opinion

From what I read, it's a medal specifically for services to the crown/sovereign at the time.

I can understand medals for fighting (though I am a pacifist and do not believe in war), but at least if you've got the balls to go into battle you've actually done something, other than walk slowly around with a probably empty box.

I find the monarchy baffling to be honest.

I have, so have actually earned the right to my opinion..which I will keep to myself for fear of causing a major disturbance in the force (ie, the Mods banning stick.)

It’s only a medal for crying out loud. In the past servants, chauffeurs even train guards have received it. A token of gratitude from the royal family for services rendered, hardly an unearned seat in the House of Lords. When a group of us pall-beared a mate a bit back his widow gave each of us a small gift in appreciation, same thing on a different scale.
