Sorry about that last post.

Unfortunately rucksacks, like helmets, mudguards, beards, Sh*m*no, and any remotely sensible post politically inspired will bring out massive sways of opinion from all sides, and it could get ugly (hence the popcorn).

You have asked for an opinion and you'll get mine. As a seasoned commuter and experienced tourer, I can't for one second understand why you would carry the load in a rucksack, when the bike is perfectly capable of carrying panniers or a lightweight rear pack holder?

I use a dhb Luggit Slice 25L Rucksack which i use for my commute. I have a lunch box, drinks bottle a lightweight hoodie and a few other little things. Also i use a hydration pack which takes a bit of space. But remove it and there is enough room for more stuff, but they do do a 30l and 40l version if you need somthing bigger. Also it has a handy waterproof cover stashed in the bottom of it.

Hi
Thanks for the feedback.
I'm in the market for a single speed and I'm not sure that panniers are going to be an option.
The Luggit looks like a decent bet. I'll most likely go for the 30ltr option - good price as well.

Thanks again!

Deuter make good bike rucksacks - I have the crossbike (18l but quite voluminous) which I have just used for the first time in months, having discovered the joys of panniers. Could you fit a beam rack? Although over 3 miles I don't think a backpack will be too bothersome

Not if you chop your toes off and buy some smaller shoes ;)

I usually advise getting a pannier/saddle bag but if you want a rucksack then I quite like my Berghaus 24:7. I have the 20 litre version (from about 2008) and it seems to fit quite nicely.

I also have a Lowe Alpine Airzone 35 which feels like the weight is a little too far off of my back, but it would solve the wet back issue that close fitting bags cause.

I won't - I followed this advice from Vickster previously - now I'm finding it almost impossible to balance.

As to rucksacks - just get a cheapie - £10 at first to see it if suits, but do try panniers far more comfortable on long rides.

Osprey Talon 22, very good.

Has a mesh back, with good airflow, lots of clever pockets on the waistbelt and straps which will take, phones, snack bars, tissues etc.... A retention strap for putting your helmet on the sack, outside and side pockets plus retainers for walking sticks, bladder pocket (bladder not included) adjustable back and is very stable and suitable for multi-use.

65 but if you get a 10% discount anywhere you should get it in budget.
