Rutland Red Kite Ride

At present looking at 29th of this month or 5th Feb. Because of the possibility of adverse weather around this time of year I think we have to be flexible but with only three and a half weeks to the first date we need to start thinking about it now as I could be away on holiday for a week this month.
Aiming to do around the 40 mile mark this time and break everyone in gently [honest]. I did the ride a couple of days ago and all I will say is it's a bit unusual.

Well I'm always up for making a ride more interesting, but broadswords and axes, maybe a teeny bit drastic for getting people up hills.......on the other hand..

Usually the breard is enough but if the hills are a bit steep, the extra encouragement helps. ALso stop motorists getting too close Mwwwhahahahahaha

Bah, just checked the trains for the 5th and they are actually non-existant. In that the first doesn't get there until 13:30, and it's a bus  Looks like I'll be missing another one

 I have the same trouble, it also clashes with the Cotswold reliability ride.

Don't get me started on the state [or should I say State cop-out] of trains in this country, I lived in Germany for 10 years and travelled extensively around Europe, everything about the public transport system on the continent is better than ours.
Sunday is most people's preferred day to ride but those without cars who live any distance away can never make it, what we need is a car share scheme where you register interest in forum rides if you have a car able to take other to the ride. How simple is that? Only thing extra that is needed is to state the area you live in.
Back to the present, if all goes well I will run alternate days for future rides, so the next one will be a Saturday [you are not getting off that lightly Dave].

I shall have to see if I can earn a pass out for the Saturday one then. ^_^

The infrequency of trains to Oakham seems especially awkward though- they're the reason I had to get a motorbike when I started working there!

On the car share scheme idea, if anyone does happen to be driving over from Leicester, and has space for me, Mrs. IRW, and our bikes, we'd be happy to share fuel costs!
