Would be interesting to see if many of you have had the pleasure/pain of riding on two wheels through the small village of Ryal in Northumerland....

The road out of the west side of the village drops at a vicious degree and is home to the annual beaumont trophy road race each year. -

The degree of elevation hits 30% at one point and is average around 22% for the just under 1k climb.
As a sprinter, I hate the damn bumps in the road, but after you reach the top, the road tapers beautifully for 4k into Stamfordham.

The strava info is here for any of you wanting to have a shot.

Have you linked to the correct segment, according to strava its an average of 3% and max out at about 15%, doesn't seem that bad.

Done the Ryals three separate times during the Virgin a Money Cyclone.
Short but vicious little beggars, esoecially the first of the two (and steepest) if it's your first time as it doesn't look too onerous.
Great feeling getting over the top though.

Well I've just conquered it as part of the 65 mile cyclone on Www.purplechopper.co.uk

I'm confused,

That profile shows a steep 250m or so segment with a gain of just over 40m making it 10% at best.
Though I must say, having very short '10% all the way 60m', a continuous 10% is hard to endure.

The gradient of the Ryals is always exaggerated. Having said that, it's still a challenging climb, and the steepest bit is very tough. I used to fear it, and it took me a few attempts before I was able to conquer it, but now I can get up it even after 80 miles of the Cyclone.
