I dislike Ryanair but when push comes to shove if they go where you want to go, and they're cheap, one swallows one's personal dislike of O'Leary and his tactics.

The last time I used them to go to Italy, weather forced a diversion to another airport over 100 miles away from the planned destination. No problem with that, these things happen. What peed me off was that the staff lied to all the passengers saying that they'd laid on bus transfers for everyone (around 200 passengers, including many children). Then they fecked off in their plane sharpish.

The promised buses never came and there was nobody to complain to because it was an airport where Ryanair didn't have a presence.

They're lying, thieving scum and I've blacklisted them ever since.

I flew back from Ancona with them last year and at the boarding gate everyone had to have their hand luggage weighed with the threat of a £40 penalty if it weighed more than 9kg (IIRC).
The Italian staff never actually took any money off anyone as they allowed them to lob books away, wear 2 coats or 3 jumpers, glug wine etc. Highly entertaining and the reverse of what had happened at Gatwick where they penalised anyone foolish enough to be overweight - luggage wise, not fatties:ohmy:

Colleague of mine went to Japan with his bike (not by Ryanair!), and the only way he could get everything within the total baggage limit was to wear all his clothes!

I was so unenamoured of Ryanair when I tried them that getting a train to Sicily was preferable.
Handy Hint.
It's a very, very long train journey to Sicily.
But you do get to go on a boat while still on a train, which is unusual.

Coming back from Cyprus the helpful check-in staff wouldn't take an average hand-luggage allowance for 4 of us so I ended up taking some of the stuff out of the overweight case and putting it on my lad's lap, he was a bub in a pushchair at the time, then when she said it was all OK I put it back in the case and away we went - mental!

I won't use them. I would rather pay more and go with another airline rather than use Ryanair. I don't think that they are safe, they only carry just enough fuel for a start.
