I like the screw count!
I just went by the BBC news.this is absolute nonsense, the instance was Ryanair to Madrid bad weather diverted them to Barcelona were they were holding for nearly on hour, when the low fuel warning kicked in causing Ryanair to request an emergency landing.. plus Ryanair have a very good, if not excellent safety record.
easyjet and another airline also requested emergency landings...
thanks. I'll walkit's well for those who can afford to fly with whichever airline they want, for the rest of us they are a cheap, reliable option, and have offered me and the rest of the great unwashed the opportunity of affordable European travel...

I was so unenamoured of Ryanair when I tried them that getting a train to Sicily was preferable.
Handy Hint.
It's a very, very long train journey to Sicily.
But you do get to go on a boat while still on a train, which is unusual.
http://www.theguardian.com/travel/2012/feb/12/sicily-train-messina-straits-ferryI've not been to Sicily by train but I have been to Florence by train and it was great. St Pancras to Paris, quick walk across town (not forgetting to buy baguettes, cheese and nice wine), Paris to Florence. It does take about 18 hours but it's the only way to travel.
I don't mind O'Leary or his tactics particularly. Ryannair fulfils a market and as he quite rightly says if you don't want to fly like this for this price, fly with someone else. It is a market I don't particularly want to play in and I'm happy to pay that bit extra to fly with Easyjet or Aer Lingus who offer a far better service. From recent experience I'd say that, in the short haul arena, Easyjet are giving BA a run for their money now.I dislike Ryanair but when push comes to shove if they go where you want to go, and they're cheap, one swallows one's personal dislike of O'Leary and his tactics.
I won't use them. I would rather pay more and go with another airline rather than use Ryanair. I don't think that they are safe, they only carry just enough fuel for a start.
Agreed. I think that the scramble for seats is a pain (although obviously everyone gets one) so fly with other companies.I never really get people being annoyed with Ryan Air's policies. We went, so many people getting annoyed with the checkin becuase the wouldn't allow them the extra couple of kilos. It is widely known that they have a strict policy of 15Kg. Don't get annoyed with them if your case is 17Kg and you're hopng nobody notices and you're trying to beat the system. Most airports have scales so there's no excuses of not being able to weight your baggage.
They are very cheap BEACUSE of these policies (weight is critical to fuel usage) and fast turnaround due to minimal bag check-in . It is very simple, either use them or don't. If you do, follow the rules, it's not that difficult and it's hardly a surpirse as its all made very clear.

That's a shame
I just love sleeper trains. Mrs R is speaking at an event in Aberdeen at the end of November. I am taking the Sunday night sleeper from Euston with her and we are coming back on the Monday sleeper after the conference. I can't wait - I know it doesn't work for everyone, but I sleep like a baby on a train. It's bliss.
That is us next year come hell or high water, small people on the caledonian sleeper with or without bikes we are sleeping on a train!
