Thanks for that, Fnaar.

It appears to be a standard fare for infants. 200 kroner (20 quid give or take) so one would assume this would include the baby seat belt, but as its ryanair???

By the way i'm at work sitting beside a chap called Fanar!! Any relation??

I'd check what luggage allowance the infant gets. Some tossers getting right shirty about only one bag (So ladies have to put handbags/baby bags into hand luggage) and all shopping needs to fit in there too... The thing is as soon as people get past the jobsworth, they take everything out of the bag again. I believe they'll take your kids push chair for free.. but in the old days when one didn't have to pay for hold luggage anyway, there was no allowance for an infant. (I presume cos they didn't buy a seat.)

I have to say I've never had a problem with ryanair or easyjet. Perhaps if you're going to Barcelona for the same price as a KFC bargain bucket you shouldn't expect too much.

I don't think it's necessarily snobbish. Some people have false expectations. Budget airlines have changed the name of the game; you don't get what you don't pay for.

I don't think it's being snobbish. Yeah, it's not a lot of money to fly now but it doesn't mean I want to be treated like a piece of shoot.

If Ryanair flights were like a tenner I wouldn't complain. Whenver, I've used them recently however, after charges you're looking at 40-70 quid for one-way flights in Western Europe. I flew BA several times last year in comparison, it cost £55-70 quid one-way, free sandwich and drink on the plane, and bike carriage thrown in free with the normal 23kg baggage allowance (I didn't include bike carriage with Ryanair, obviously this puts things thru the roof in terms of charges).

Maybe Ryanair is a better option if you've no check in baggage, hunt for a bargain, manage to get a £0.99 flight and charges only bump it too 20-30 quid or whatever, but already you're not a million miles away from the cheapest BA flights where so much more is thrown in for free. Well my experience anyhow, I don't bother checking the Ryanair site much anymore, I used to use it by default.

That's my impression of the situation too Bodhbh. By the time you add on bits and bobs, that cheap budget flight is not that much cheaper than BA etc. Then factor in travel to/from the airport, your own time for flights at strange times of the day etc etc etc

The budgets are a god send and life line for many expats here. Personally, I use the train if I'm heading back to the UK. I prefer it but it would be just as convenient for me to fly and a damned site quicker; I could be into Stanstead within 3 hours of leaving home. But I like the train even if it takes longer, just a more pleasant journey for me and I hate flying!

There are obviously going to be times when scheduled airlines are cheaper than the budget ones.. However talking about 70 pounds flight in W Europe.. I remember the cost of my then cheap ticket (British Midland had started to offer competition to Aerlingus and BA on Dublin-London) as being 75 pounds one way from Dublin to Standstead in 1988. So really air fares are cheap in comparison..especially if one factors in inflation. Part of that is due to Ryanair and EasyJet etc.. providing competition on various routes.
And for those lovers of sea/rail travel, it has a knock on effect too.. Dublin Holyhead is cheaper than 20 years ago even at high season. And the ferries have certainly improved. too in terms of comfort.

Thanks, meenaghman, for reminding me about the baggage-bollox situation with ryanair. We'll have to go for the extra baggage allowance, i suppose.

They're going to be happy when they see the pram we have. It's designed for scandinavian winters - so the chassis is almost the size of a British Leyland Mini!

Just for the record - I wouldn't consider Ryanair if they weren't half the price of the nearest competitor inc. extra charges. And esp. (how often is this the case?) the departure and destination airports are the most convenient for me (Oslo Rygge - La Rochelle).

Booked to Charleroi a few years back. Ryanair and the EU had a big row over payments from the local Chamber of Commerce. All flights cancelled.

Had to book with British Midland at 4x the price.

Wizz Air cancelled my flights due volcano, no refund after 8 weeks, threatened legal action, refunded next day.

Never had any issues with Easyjet or bmi baby.

The thing is with Ryan Air. Everyone knows what they are like and how they treat their customers. It's widely acknowledged that customer service is non existent and customers are treated like cattle. But that's what you get for your money. Anyone who flies with Ryan Air knows what they are buying into and should have no complaints in my opinion. In this case it is you get what you pay for.
