You helped keep him going until he got to hospital.
This might sound a bit callous but, if they couldn't help him then no one could, it just looks like his time was up.
Thanks to you his friends and family had time to prepare and say goodbye properly, they'll always be grateful to you for that.

Sorry to hear he didn't get out of the hospital but at least he was sat up and chattering in your other thread, which was down to you alone,

We can't ever save a life in the long term. Everyone is eventually going to die of something. All we can do is is give them a few more days, weeks, months, years or decades if they are lucky. You did all that could be done.
