Ah, that's terrible. As another Darlo lad, I was convinced I'd meet him on one of his trips back to the homeland. But I never did.

I think I'll have a Taylor's pie tomorrow.

From admiring his Flying Gate on the Rippon Canter two years ago, to some very enjoyable FNRttCs, Vernon was always a pleasure to ride with.

That is terribly sad news. My condolences to his friends and family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Vernon quite recently, when I bought a Ribble frame from him. He always seemed a throughly nice chap on-line, and having met him I can say that he was one of those people who you instantly warm to. We had a lovely chat about his trip to America, and (mostly) about his Woodrup - the bike, of course, was in the kitchen with us.. It was cold out you see. He also talked about his imminent retirement, and how it was quite possible that he might have found himself buying another Woodrup, although there was a suggestion that he might have some work to do on the domestic front first.

Vernon, you were one of life's good guys. Goodnight.

Quite a restless night here for me for various reasons so i have decided to get up.

On looking out of the window i can tell you Vernon has well and truly arrived up there with a bang.The stars seem to have gone out.

He's set his lab up already

That is terrible news! Seriously i haven't seen this thread until 5 minutes ago. I think i upset Vernon when i first came on here 4 years ago,by saying all he talked about was pies and from then on he didn't take to me, but in the last year he even liked some of my posts. I thought he'd be quiet on here for the last few weeks. A friend of mine died nearly 2 years ago in the same week he was due to retire. He had his funeral the same day as his retirement party was supposed to be held. Rest in peace Vernon.

i'll see if I can post a link to the vegetarian 'Indian Potato Pie' recipe that Vernon sent me, it was one of his favourites. One of Maz and Mine's too.

Bugger! Only just seen this thread, and that is indeed sad news. I enjoyed his posts, but never got to meet the man, the legend that was Vernon. I shall raise a glass, and a pie, in his honour.

Like everyone I'm saddened at this news. Vernon was a genuine voice on the forums with a wry wit and an engaging style. I don't need to have met him to know he'll be missed and the site will be a little poorer without him.
