Salsa Vaya 3 or Surly Cross Check

Sorry its another what bike question..I'm thinking about getting another bike mainly for the commute to work (mostly on old railway line ctc)..I've been looking at the Salsa Vaya 3 or Surly cross check..Anybody out there with any views or suggestions(polite please:-> )....I already have the surly lht and its great just a tad heavy....
