This is Mrs R I have hijacked Mr R forum- On a recent visit to Hungary I visited a salt cave which is fairly common in Eastern Europe for alternative treatment for allergies like hay fever and asthma. It is also allegedly good for high blood pressure, psoriasis, COPD, ear infections and other skin and respiratory ailments. Has anyone tried this therapy? Please share your thoughts!

Welcome Mrs R .

I personally have no experience however i have a god daughter with severe asthma and i know her mum takes her to a place with a salt cave/room once a week and has done for quite a long time. My GD apparently really benefits from it. Its in Seattle though.

I don't know anything about it, but I can imagine the atmosphere in a salt cave is very dry or something which is probably a key factor.

I tend to feel that if something makes someone feel better, and doesn't harm anyone else, then it's a good thing, and there's no need to analyse it too much. The placebo effect is a very strong one, and even if a therapy only works by coincidence, if it work, it works.

There are lots of salt caves in Ireland. First they dig out the salt for use on frozen roads, then they use the cavities for storing paper records. Apparently paper lasts forever in a salt cave.

Perhaps people with such conditions should get priority when applying for work in salt caves. Although in Russia such work was reserved as a punishment so maybe not.
