When he married his millionaire father in laws daughter, he must have promised to keep his daughter in the manner she has become accustomed. He must be on his uppers if his wife has to run around in an old Micra.

This is why I'm in favour of inheritance tax. What's the point of having loads of cash if all you're going to do with it is leave it to your kids or pay off some slick-suited bean-counter?

I don't understand.

Why is he picking up a cheap £1900 Micra with 90k on the clock for his missus, when he could easily get her a brand new B-class Merc, for example?

Does he want her and his kids stuck on the hard shoulder of the M40, waiting in the freezing cold for the AA man to arrive?
