First of all how come Samsung are sponsoring bike week? Do they make any bike products?

Secondly have you seen that Samsung will apparently donate a quid to charity for every mile you ride next week?

I spotted this while reading this article about plans to fine drivers who park in cycle lanes, which I guess will also be of interest

I've downloaded the app and we plan to track our Way of the Roses ride. That'll cost em a few quid.

I'll download it tonight and hopefully remember to turn it on when I'm doing the 77 mile version of Flat Out In The Fens on Sunday. Should be able to get at least £100 between that and getting to King's Cross, Peterborough, Eye and back to London.

Not that I'm aware of, but big companies are very keen to project themselves as caring for communities and being responsible. Cycling is not only cool at the moment - Olympics and all that - but it's also seen as good for individuals and society at large. So it helps Samsung's brand image to be associated with and to promote cycling

They'll only pay out for a maximum of 26 miles per day, sadly.

I think I'll still download the app, and of course I'll make sure I switch it off if I'm travelling by car

So thats the catch then? I did wonder
That's a pity - would have been good to have got some of the **Mile Alba (1000km) entrants signed up !

Now that would have generous of Samsung

[** and I know it is not till next week-end - but the thought remains ...]

I am confused by the site and by the FAQs in the app itself; does cycling count for the whole duration or only during next week?

the FAQs sort of contradict themselves in the same sentence:

Simply set up your profile in the app and then whenever you go for a walk, run or cycle you will add to your distance total. At the end of the promotion 27.07.12 we will look at the total of miles run by all participants and for every complete mile run by each participant, Samsung will give £1 to a good cause...”

I have emailed Samsung on a generic "contact us" link but I don't expect a customer-services bod to know. I'll post the reply if there is one.
