The same person who bought albums by Simply Red - and then plays them quietly in the background with soft lights, drinking a £7.99 bottle of red whilst making lurve - buys Coldplay albums.

I thought Coldplay only had one song.... and you're telling me they ripped that off? Blimey.

I don't have any Phil Collins but I have a Genesis LP. I don't have any Simply Red (the misses does) but I have a Frantic Elevators single. Is there a Coldplay former life?

It doesn't matter if you have an album, it's whether or not you like it that counts.

Years ago I remember people raving about 'Parachutes' and muggins here eagerly buying it, only to find that it was total rubbish! I have no idea what I did with it, but it's gone.

What is it with that man's whiny, affected, bleating voice? What a tosser. If he stood in front of me and sang like that I could stab him in the head without feeling any guilt whatsoever.

Maggot...I can understand that you may not 'get' Joe Satriani, and I assume you are not a guitar player. The fact is that he was really rather seminal as a guitar virtuoso, especially with his album 'Surfing with the Alien' which was the first shred guitar album to be publicly recognised and popular. In addition to that, he also taught Steve Vai, another successful virtuoso player, who was in bands such as Whitesnake, and The Frank Zappa Band. To add to his accolades even further, he was guitar teacher and mentor to Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett, and you can hardly argue that they weren't successful (or good, although maybe not to everyone's tastes).
He also seems a genuinely nice guy, and I don't think he would sue them just out of spite. If someone is encroaching on your territory in a manner like this, I think it's justified to take action. He is probably hoping for an out of court settlement rather than a big proper case.
As a matter of fact, I don't find Coldplay all that bad, but they are rather repetitive, and I do think that song really does sound rather suspectly similar to 'If I Could Fly'...

As for being boring, well at least all the songs are different, not just some endless durge of samey samey guitar based soft rock, like all the other samey samey guitar based soft rock artists.

I thought "samey guitar based soft rock" was Coldplay's raison d'etre. They're BORING, get over it.
Satriani is not my thing either, but it sounds very much like he's been ripped off in this case.
