Had a light lunch, went to bed. However, within half an hour was struggling to breathe.

Mrs D called 111 for advice, and they sent a meatwagon for me. Various checks, scans and xrays and they reckon the first hossy muffed up the nerve blocked I'd been given as pain relief, and it was affecting the function of my diaphragm. On top of that, blood tests showed something or other that indicated I was a high risk for clotting

So, kicked out this morning wearing sexy stockings. Got to self inject an anti clotting agent for a week
Before the op, I was going to say ...

Er, never mind - just GWS! :okay:

Gentlemen, rest easy, for I live!!!

Op itself was OK. I was first in, home by 1230. Had a light lunch, went to bed. However, within half an hour was struggling to breathe.

If they did a nerve block around the neck shoulder, then a side effect is a partially, temporarily paralysed diaphragm. When I had my shoulder done, is was specifically told/consented by the gasman for this, as well as the consent for the op itself.

Take the recovery steady, do the exercises as described (they do help big time)

Aye, was told it could happen and signed the disclaimer. You're told "don't worry, the odds are low", which is small consolation whennit happens to you!

Will do with the exercises. Doing them already and seeing the physio on on Monday. Determined to get fit ASAP for Project Beefcake to begin.

I'm afraid we're going to have to amputate, Drago.

I knew I had it wrong, missed the beef bit out of the project, that will explain the self tightening belt

I'm not sure about the white compression wear though; 5-years on from my time in hospital, I still wear moderate-compression travel socks, but I only buy black ones!

Oh well, since you had already mentioned clots ...

I read something interesting the other day that would be worth bearing in mind when Project Beefcake begins ... Most of us (now!) know about the risks of DVTs in legs but what is not so well-known is that you can get them elsewhere, and doing a lot of weights or other repeated strenuous arm movements (e.g. in throwing sports) can sometimes cause them to form in the arms. One such condition is Paget–Schroetter disease a.k.a. subclavian vein effort thrombosis. Obviously it shouldn't put you off doing the exercise, but just be aware of what symptoms to watch out for and seek medical attention immediately if those develop.

Rubbish. Men like Drago need nothing more than a Bowie knife and some torn denim to perform the surgery themselves. Then apply gunpowder to the sutures.

You are a drain on the system!

When I was at Haslar, we used to fire rounds of some of the cellars and there were gunpowder stains on the walls and ceilings of some of the older parts of the Hospital from this very type of Surgery
