I'm not sure about the white compression wear though; 5-years on from my time in hospital, I still wear moderate-compression travel socks, but I only buy black ones!

I read something interesting the other day that would be worth bearing in mind when Project Beefcake begins ... Most of us (now!) know about the risks of DVTs in legs but what is not so well-known is that you can get them elsewhere, and doing a lot of weights or other repeated strenuous arm movements (e.g. in throwing sports) can sometimes cause them to form in the arms. One such condition is Paget–Schroetter disease a.k.a. subclavian vein effort thrombosis. Obviously it shouldn't put you off doing the exercise, but just be aware of what symptoms to watch out for and seek medical attention immediately if those develop.
