Around Regent's Park, London this evening... 2 cyclists in front of me at red light, queue of cars to the right of us. There's a left turn less than 5 metres from the lights. Light changes green and first cyclist sets off, ahead of the first car who pulls away slowly. Then car overtakes cyclist just as he reaches the left turn and without indicating... turns left! Took the cyclist out completely... luckily (if you can call it that) it all happened at a relatively low speed.

Then the car driver looked like he was going to drive off so I cycled up to his window and started shouting, at which point he stopped. Opened his door and said "I didn't see him"... TWAT, he pulled up next to the cyclist at the lights and the cyclist was ahead of him when the lights changed... so I gave him an earful! Then the cyclist got up, came over and gave him an earful.

For some reason, probably adrenlin, the cyclist didn't want to take down the car's details despite me telling him to do so several times. A pedestrian also offered to be a witness and told the cyclist to take down his details numerous times... but he kept refusing, so the driver drove off.

I double checked the the guy was OK and he insisted he was, despite rubbing his left arm... so off I went.

If I had a pen and bit of paper, I probably would've taken down the details for him... so I'm off now to put a pen and bit of paper in my ruck sack for future.

This was the first accident I've ever seen and surprised myself with my own reaction in making the driver stop and then giving him an earful

btw, the second cyclist didn't even stop!

Nasty bit of work. The driver shouldn't have left the scene without giving details whether requested or not and even witnesses can ask for details if the injured party cannot, maybe due to shock or other incapacity.

I have gotten into the habit of using my phone camera and photographing everything, faces, numberplates, road names and markings and then walking away to get wider shots to place the incident in perspective and get indicators of road width and signs.

Yep have to say I agree with NT on that, just click away with your phone camera (providing you have one) its all down and recorded then you can always deleat it if not needed later. Be a bit carefull though if photgraphing peoples faces, as they are quite entitled to get upset about that.

Well done for stopping and helping the guy out though, sterling work.

Just how many accidents have you been in... you sound like a pro accident stalker:biggrin:

I agree that the cyclist knocked off isn't necessarily thinking straight at the time.

I seem to have bought a car with special invisibility paint. Other drivers will just drive into it as if it wasn't there. Honestly not my fault in any of them. Quite a few times cars have pulled out of side roads into my car as if I was a gap in the traffic or reversed into me as if I wasn't there.

I think it is having a pale metalic green car that is the same colour tone as tarmac. On a B&W photo the car is the same shade of grey as the road surface and maybe colour blind drivers just can't see it.

I've also been a passenger in a car that was hit by a RLJing car at a cross roads and another time a London bus drove at speed into the back of me when I was stopped in traffic while driving my Dad's car.

It has been one a year between 1999 to 2006.

Did you get the plates and car make? Why not go to the police and just let them know that the driver has left the scene of an accident without providing details.

Said cyclist could have been in shock and in worst case scenario could still end up in hospital. There was a story my father told me years ago about a guy who got hit by a car whilst crossing the road, he got up apologised to the driver and walked off. A few hours later he was in intensive care with internal bleeding fighting for his life.

If you witness stuff like this you need to report it imo.

For me I carry not just the camera, but notepad and pen, mobile (with ICE).. important stuff to carry honestly.
