Anyone heard of this? I just came across it in an article about the bitter internal ructions in the world of English chess, and it states: "In any dispute the intensity of feeling is inversely proportional to the value of the issues at stake." (Should I be posting this in SC&P?)

Any dispute that arises from an en passant move should probably go in Commuting.

Not heard of Sayle's law, by the way.

I can relate to that.

Back in 1967 myself and a group of mates bunked off school for a day and held a Subbutteo table soccer knock out tournament round one lads house. Me and my best mate got to the final where he beat me 2-1. We had a heated row over a disputed penalty I was refused and it ended up with us having to be pulled apart covered in bruises with trampled little Subbuteo men all over the room. We had been the closest of buddies up to then but it was never the same again and we eventually drifted apart to the extent we would pass in the street and ignore each other.

I still feel bitter about it nearly 50 years on, the rules clearly stated that a player lying down was deemed to have handled the ball if it struck him. I have been scared and traumatised all my life because of that. If I knew where the b@stard lives now I would sue him.

So chess players cannot keep their emotions in check.
