I was riding home tonight and in the darkness saw what I thought was a rear light on a bike. Distance .85 of a mile away.

The next time I saw it it was .57 of a mile away.

The next time it was .4 of a mile away.

The last time I saw it it was .35 of a mile away.

(all on twisting country lanes)

I then got to my village and did an extra loop to get 23 miles in, instead of 22.8.

As I rode along I saw a solitary bike parked up near the bus shelter (I'd rode a different (longer) route round the village, but got to the same point as him)

Total distance to get the scalp was 4.47 miles.

Did I kick his @rse or what?

It was that old bloke with the walking stick, out on his evening walk with a light on the back of his coat!

I suppose you could call it scalping, though! ;)

The fact that he appears to have taken the bus home suggests his bike was suffering a serious mechanical failure, so I don't think you can really gloat too much. Especially since you didn't catch him.
It's the taking part that counts though eh.
