Scary - for cyclists AND drivers - the sort of driver that is out there!

So, someone's father is travelling up the motorway, and we hear that he broke down, having run out of petrol.

How did he make such a silly mistake? Did his fuel gauge not work? Did the warning light not come on?

Nothing to do with that - his excuse. Was engrossed in the film on the DVD player and didn't notice the fuel gauge! So blasé about it too! The sound of my jaw hitting the floor was noticeable.

I passed a Policewoman texting in her squad car in slow moving traffic yesterday.
Seems everybodies at it(driving without due care and attention).

I had just left my house the other morning when I heard a strange faint sschk-sschk noise coming from a side road. It was getting closer so I went to investigate. I couldn't immediately see what it was but it was definitely getting nearer.

Sschk-sschk. Sschk-sschk.

I waited for a moment or two, and then a battered old Fiesta came round the corner. The windscreen was frosted over, so the driver was attempting to clear it with his wipers.

Sschk-sschk.

It wasn't working; they were still fully frosted so he had evidently just decided to drive anyway and let the wipers clear the screen en route. So that he could actually see where he was going, he had wound down a side window and was driving along with his head sticking out.

Honestly, there should be a test or some sort of licensing system before some people are allowed to use the road.

Don't be daft. Some people might fail, and then how would they get to the shops?

I hope your going to report that....;)

No Vike - I've got a couple of friends who are in the Police and they know who she is and are gonna have a quiet word. Unless someone else see's her first of course.

I wouldn't want someone to lose their job on my reporting them - annoying though it was.

Coincidentally - I saw the same young woman today trying to park her Police car(badly) on the other side of town. She got out and walked along the road texting on her mobile - didn't look very professional either. I rarely see other Police Officers on their own.;)

I saw a guy in a large people carrier last Friday in heavy Chelsea traffic. With one hand he was holding his mobile, and talking excitedly into it, and with the other he was patting a large dog which was sitting on his lap.

I was quite impressed with his multi-tasking.

I have no qualms at all........

If an individual's driving or behaviour on the road is sufficient that it requires to be reported then that is their choice to behave in this way

All you have done is report, if the employer feels that it is something that requires dismissal or reprimand then again it is their decision not mine.

The greater guilt is if the next person they cut up. pull out in front of or hit is not as lucky as you. My personal feeling is that I have a responsibility to other road users

I think the "no mobile phone" law should be extended to cover things like watching movies on your in-car DVD player while you drive!

I have nothing against someone parking up to watch a movie, just like you're supposed to park up to use your mobile - but doing on the move it nuts!

The law would possibly not change the habits of many, but it would certainly be a deterrent - 3 points on your licence for watching a DVD while driving is not unreasonable!

Fantastic idea! But it would have to be a decent "catch-all" - something like "Driving without due care and attention" maybe?
