Chuffing typical- probably the last chance to see one of the finest midfielders of his generation in the national squad, and they left it too late to ask him. And now he's gonna spend the summer in florida coaching bloody kids instead of dropping a fourty yarder over lampard or rooneys' shoulder onto thier big toe.

There were unpublicised reasons he retired from international football when he did. These I think have been resolved. No doubt they will come out when someone writes his biography.
