Beat my PB by 4 minutes today. I reckon it must be partly down to the school holidays - it's the first time I've managed to get on the bike this week and there seemed to be much less traffic than usual.

44½ minutes for 12 miles today. Previous best is just under 49 minutes. I did push a bit harder up the hills today too so that could be a lot of the difference.

Also noticed while logging my ride on cyclogs that my odometer is reading 499.3 miles (I got my bike in October last year having not ridden in a long time and have used it pretty much exclusively for commuting so far)

Yup - lovely and quiet on my whole route this morning and especially around the two schools where there are normally kids (and mothers) walking in the road, 4X4's weaving in and out all over the place and really crap parking!!

Although I did have a bloke swing his door open in front of me this morning - I was far enough out to miss it by a couple of inches but I shouted "watch it" and the look of absolute disgust he gave me was unreal!!!

No they're not.
The train is full of mom's with pushchairs, teenagers with inordinate amounts of fishing gear and day-trippers abandoning bikes in the doorways.

Plus the train company takes the opportunity to shave a carriage off here and there thus completing the cycle of misery.
Bring on the end of the holidays so we know where we are.

Careful on your way home. You'll be constantly looking at your comp waiting for it to click onto 500m. Little mile stones like that are very satisfying

And I'm loving the quieter roads.

The council have taken the opportunity to put up 2 lots of TLC road works on my route. This has offset any school holiday advantage!

Just to let the office layabouts know, if you go out a bit later, all the kids are on mini full sussers with dads on maxi full sussers falling off pavements in front of you.

As well as the 500, I just had a look on Cyclogs again and realised I averaged over 16mph for the first time! It's only the third time I've taken that exact route but the other two times I'd averaged under 15. 15.8 was my best going along the canal rather than over the hills.

Most Bristol schools have yet to break up... this Friday is the end of term... why does every where else break up early she says enviously. Still I finished this morning and now have the summer holidays to look forward to.

I was on 999999 last week then it went to 0.

Yep - will be nice not to have the endless queues of cars, the creative 3-point turns, the bottlenecks caused by parents who get to school ridiculously early to bag the best parking spaces, then sit in their cars outside the schools reading / smoking / with the radio blaring for half an hour...

A different point of view...I ain't so keen. I have to ship my son around family and we live too distant for him to ride. So I struggle to find time to fit many miles in for the next 6 weeks. and when I do get chance to ride in I find that the traffic tends to be faster.

I finish work at 3 o'clock which happens to be exactly the same time as the local school about 1 mile from work, in the time it takes me to travel that 1 mile the little cherubs have the time to pour out of the playground and sprawl across the road running to their parents cars.

The next 6 weeks are going to be total bliss ;)
