I'd rather be thraped with stinging nettles.

Providing it's behind closed doors I can't see a problem with that ...

I've got a month or so to decide so I'll see how I feel nearer the night. Best mate told me this afternoon, when I asked him how many were going - "Depends. Could be anywhere from 10 to 40 of us". Hmmm.

There's one person from school I'm still in contact with. There would have been 2 but for a motorcycle SMIDSY.

I don't give a toss about any of the rest. When I left, having had my education severely degraded by the school, I said I'd never go through the doors again. I haven't. As a result I've missed 2 no doubt wonderful reunions. Very probably I'd have spent the evenings looking at my watch wondering when it was acceptable to leave.

Like Adrian in post #17 I'd have had to be searched befoer entry so the petrol and matches could be confiscated.

What do you say to someone you haven't seen for nearly forty years?

I think I'd rather stick pins in my eyes.

I had a "death list" and a "live list" when I was at school....some of the former obliged. I have met some people who allege they were at school with me - if I remember them I say so, but mostly I say 'I cannae remember you'...and some who try to contact me via 'social media'

But then ther are also those people you never see for years and can connect as if it was only an hour since you chatted...

I would rather stick hot needles under my nails, make sales calls or take a hacksaw to my bicycle frames than ever attend a school reunion. EVER.

Left school in 1989 and still have the occasional nightmare about it.

There has never been a school reunion for folk in my era, but I hear from people who have attended such events that reunions of ex pupils can be fun, but reunions attended by ex-pupils with their partners are best avoided.

4 years ago we had one, but there was a serious reason behind it:

A popular Science/Guidance teacher had died of Leukaemia, so our year organised a charity night/get together/piss up at the local football stadium with the aim of raising as much money as possible for IIRC Cancer Research.

Kind of sweet, but we were apparently a 'good year', so I wouldn't have expected anything less from us

Thing is, we had only left school 7 years earlier, and most of us were still in the local area, so it was more like a big social night with the common purpose that it was for charity instead of a reunion, and whats more, some people from other years turned up too, which was a nice touch.

We were all going to go clubbing afterwards, but it never quite happened somehow

That said, I didn't recognise some of them, and then there were the others who had seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth with nobody knowing what on earth ever happened to them..... and all in 7 years!

None of the real twats turned up either, so I didn't need the cattle prod after all. Always a bonus.

I've never been to a school reunion and would not wish to go to one. The times I've met up with old colleagues or friends have mostly been short times of talking and long pauses trying to find some common ground to talk about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

Indeed. These "reunions" usually remind me why we lost touch in the first place.

Those long pauses are where they are just waiting for you to say all of your exclamation marks

To be fair, I think it is more down to whether you went to School in Twatsville or not. Not going to reunions, not the long pauses.

Our year has had two - 10 years apart - both enjoyable.

The trick is top latch onto someone who can name most of the people in attendance so you don't have the embarrasment of fumbling for a name when someone warmly greets you as a long lost friend.

The nearest 'reunion' is my recent MSc course where the students get together every month for food, drink and discussion. The faces sometimes change but there are a lot of regulars. I don't attend every one but it is sometimes good to discuss ideas that have come from the course.

As for previous schools, I'd rather have a reunion with my secondary school teachers to see where they are now. As to the students from childhood, there is a reason for not staying in touch with them all these years and those reasons still stand.

Life has moved on and is much better without those people in my life.
