One parent lives just around the corner, he walks his son to school then hops on his bike to cycle to work, so how close doesn't really matter. (But then I hop on my bike to go to the post box around the corner!!!)

First "too many to count" for you.

Daughters primary school generally just has one parent travelling by car, maybe a couple more if its chucking it down theres about 300 kids at that school.

Sons high school says 75% of their 1500 pupils arrive by bicycle.

The cycle lanes around here are very busy at 8.45am.!!

Wow - I'm impressed starseven - that would be a delight to see. I can't imagine a world where the norm is to be on a bike rather than a car to go to school. They must have some impressive cycle sheds at the school too.

I shall ask Mrs Mickle since she happens to be the headteacher of a school two miles down the road from Summerdays in Filton. They produced their travel plan last year and have just put a new bike shelter in, which was oversubscribed on its first day.

Micro-scooters are very popular for kids to commute on apparently.

Micro scooters are a pain in bike sheds - I've seen a scooter stand at another school but forgot to get the details so that they could put one in at littlest summerdays school. Still I am waiting on all the Cycling City information on how it affects schools in both Bristol and South Glos. Have they applied to be a Bike It school?

They do, several of them. Very little car parking all the space is taken up by bike racks with more added every year.

The whole area has high cycle use mostly due to provision of good cycle lanes which are also well used by commuters. Cycling is encouraged even if pupils live close enough to work it establishs the bicycle as a viable alternative to the car.
Bit more on the school here.

and travelwise

I sometimes think it would be good to video the massive numbers of cyclists but doubt it would go down well with protective parents.
