Schwalbe Durano not all that durable

My rear tyre, after the couple of wet days, is shredded. There are at least 5 reasonably large, 3-4mm long, full depth gashes through the bloody thing, any of which was a candidate for blame for the puncture what I got. Very disappointed. Ordered a Durano plus for a replacement, but now sort of wishing I'd ordered a gator skin.

Schwalbe are great tyres but they are a soft compound, this is what makes them very grippy, but IME they do indeed cut up very easily.

The Durano as far as I'm aware isn't marketed as being particularly tough.

The Plus is a tougher tyre but as a Gatorskin fan I too would have gone the Conti route TBH.

I replaced my durano + tyres this year after just over 2 years no problems just wore out the tread they are excellent tyres.

Agree with Smokey about the Durano not being all that tough. It's the Plus version you really need.

Done 2000 commuter miles in 5 months on Stelvios (same as Durano S) with no problems, just usual mileage wear on rear tyre.

Durano + rock. The front on the Viner has done something over 4k miles, I only killed the rear by running it underinflated.

I had cracking on a Schwalbe Lugano rear tyre which was five months old. It ran along the coloured bits of the tyre. So I took it up with the supplier, sent it back and they sent me a new one immediately !

The front tyre is fine.

I've found the normal Durano's excellent value for money, but does suffer from the slashing effect, not that a spot of glue doesn't do the trick.

Personally, after trying the whole range, am now settle on the Durano S's, from a combination of great rolling/p* fairy resistance, lack of cracking and, when slightly under inflated, no pinch-punctures, whats quite common the normal's.

Alternatively, if you run 700x28c's, the Supreme's, while expensive, are worth every penny, unless you're use is for a race tyre...

I've got Durano S, the supposedly even less tough but more racy tyre. After 500 miles in most conditions, ni punctures, ni tears. Can't complain!

The flip side of that IME was that my Cannondale came with Durano S when I bought it brand new. First ride out, a lovely Spring day in the Lake District, and I end up with a huge cut in the rear tyre and had to replace it, 50 miles and it was fubar

A great tyre but certainly not one I'd ever recommend for winter roads.

I was cursing my fairly new durano plus tyre after a visit from the p******* fairy on Tuesday. Turns out it was the inner tube at fault.

No probs I think to myself, replaced said inner tube, pumped it up and sat down for cuppa and a cake.
Went to put the wheel back on the bike and tyre was soft
Turns out I must have pinched the inner tube when getting the tyre back on

Ramble over
